What is Tryp.com?
Tryp.com is a Copenhagen-based travel technology platform founded in 2020 by six engineering students, André Sousa, Hélio Domingos, Inês Jorge, Sebastian Nørgaard, and Victor Thomsen.
Initially developed by six engineering students in Odense, Denmark, the platform has already achieved a global following and is on its way to competing with household names in the travel planning space.
Its success is particularly impressive considering its humble size. It’s still headquartered at Dronningens Tværgade 7 in Copenhagen and only employs a team of 24.
Tryp.com aims to simplify multi-destination travel by consolidating flights, trains, buses, and accommodations into a single, user-friendly interface. Since launching its Beta version in 2021, Tryp.com has facilitated over 18 million trips for more than 3 million users spanning 7,000+ cities.
With a database listing 28 million accommodation options, it leverages advanced algorithms and machine learning to offer personalized, affordable, and efficient travel solutions.
In 2022, the company went public. By 2024, Tryp.com had increased revenue by 2.3x and enhanced its platform with AI-driven features like virtual interlining technology and the AI assistant Sandra. It claims to have already helped over 2.4 million users “get deals airlines hide” and served 3 million unique users in total.
How the Platform Works
Tryp.com integrates AI technology to scan millions of travel options in real time. The platform then organizes bookings for flights, trains, buses, and hotels into a single transaction that the traveler reserves on the platform.
With features like automatic check-in, one-click purchases, and 24/7 customer support, it offers a seamless and stress-free booking experience. By simplifying complex itineraries and personalizing recommendations, Tryp.com transforms how users plan and experience travel.
Tryp.com - Now Traveling in the Big Leagues?
Copenhagen-based travel platform Tryp.com recently secured €3.1 million in funding, propelling its ambitious growth plans into 2025. The round was led by Iberis Capital, joined by EdenBase, ITV, GMPVC German Media Pool, and Jacob Gade.
This fresh capital injection will enable Tryp.com to scale its AI-powered travel planning platform and enhance its offerings, targeting a broader audience of global travelers.
It’s an especially significant amount, considering that Tryp.com had only previously managed to secure €850,000 in funding. €350,000 in a pre-seed funding round in 2021 and a further €500,000 in a 2023 seed round led by Ali Marvi, Ben Cavender, Jacob Gade, Jens Schumann, and NCA, amongst others.
The investment coincides with Tryp.com's rebranding efforts, including redesigned profile and booking pages. With a significantly more polished and professional user experience, Tryp.com signaled its serious intent to transition to the “big leagues.”
The company made its excitement regarding the cash injection clear by announcing the news, “Tryp.com started in a student dorm and is now heading to prime-time TV! It has been an incredible journey, and we are so proud to have the support of amazing investors and a passionate community of travelers.”
AI Tourism: A New Way to See the World?
With the rapid pace of AI adoption, we’re becoming increasingly used to seeing it permeate new and unexpected spaces. The travel industry seems to also have succumbed to its charms.
According to Global Newswire, the “AI in tourism” market is estimated at USD 2.95 billion in 2024 and is forecast to reach USD 13.38 billion by 2030 at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 28.7%.
In particular, AI has helped make massive strides in mobility solutions. It is particularly adept at calculating efficient routes for complex arrangements like ridesharing and shuttles. Plus, astronomical strides in conversational and generative AI models have resulted in virtual assistants that are far more “hospitable” than chatbots of the past.
Companies like Expedia, Skyscanner, and Tryp.com leverage AI for itinerary planning, predictive pricing, and virtual interlining to streamline complex travel needs. In hospitality, predictive algorithms help hotels reduce energy consumption and improve customer personalization.
Many expect the infusion of AI to significantly boost customer retention and engagement and help individuals save on travel costs.
An Upfront and Revolutionary Approach
While many established names in the travel industry already extensively use AI behind the scenes, Tryp.com’s all-in-one, upfront approach is revolutionary. However, we’ll need to wait and see whether mass audiences are ready to accept and trust AI to arrange and simplify their precious experiences.
