Antigua and Barbuda’s long-serving Chief Medical Officer, Dr Rhonda Sealy-Thomas, has been inaugurated as the new Assistant Director of the Pan-American Health Organization .
As Assistant Director, Dr Sealey-Thomas will report directly to PAHO Director, Dr Jarbas Barbosa and will be responsible for a number of PAHO subdepartments, including Comprehensive Immunization and the Regional Revolving Funds .
Serving as Antigua and Barbuda’s Chief Medical Officer from 2005 until this new appointment this year, Dr Sealey-Thomas has also worked in a number of other positions across the country’s health sector, such as Medical Officer of Health in the Health Ministry and Chief Technical Advisor to the Health Minister on all public health matters of regional and international concern.
She was temporarily replaced by Dr Teri-Ann Joseph, who previously served alongside Dr Sealy-Thomas as Antigua and Barbuda’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer and has been filling the role of Acting Chief Medical Officer for the past several months.
